The birth of Christ is for ordinary people
“And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” Luke 2:8-9
I was recently reading an article about the monarchy’s holdings in England. I looked at the photos of the different properties that the monarchy has. The properties are held in trust by the Crown Estate for the use of the Monarchy.
You and I can only dream of living in such castles. We are ordinary people compared to them. We will never sit in the chairs of the palace in Buckingham that was built by King George III in 1761, nor will we spend a night in one of 775 rooms, we will not enjoy the ballroom that measures 120 feet, nor will we spend time in the largest yard in London. We will not be able to admire the beauty of them because we are ordinary people.
But news of the birth of the Savior of the world is better than all those properties of the English monarchy. The Son of God came to ordinary people like us. His birth was spectacularly announced to pastors, ordinary people. They were surrounded by the splendor of God’s greatness. It was to ordinary people that God first gave the news.
In addition, The King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Son of God came to live a common life like us. His birth was common, and in very poor conditions. He could have come and been part of the royalty, had his castles, his properties, but he didn’t. He lived with an ordinary family, with ordinary people; grew up in a common environment. Worst of all, he died as a criminal, he was buried as poor. And yet he rose from the dead as King. Believing in Him by faith, He adopts us to be His Sons (Sons of the King) for all eternity and enjoy His greatness. The first Christmas was for everyone, for all people regardless of social status.
“And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” Luke 2:10-11
God is the God of Good News.
He wants our happiness. That has been his desire since creation. But our sin has caused and causes bad news. And yet we seek what can give us joy and joy. One of the most common Google searches this year was “how to be happy alone.”
The news of God on the first Christmas was “I have good news that will fill you with joy, my Son has been born. He is your “Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
It’s good news of joy for us because The Savior came to rescue us from unhappiness. He came so that we don’t try to be happy alone. We don’t need to Google it, because it’s in the Bible. It is in Christ that we have eternal happiness. When you believe as your Savior your eternal happiness begins and will continue for all eternity with Him.
“God will be as happy to have us in heaven with him as we will be to be there with him.” AW Tozer
This is good news!
